Cold calling software is the set of tools a team uses to call people who did not ask to be called: a dialer, a contact list with notes, callbacks, a Do Not Call list and reporting. The goal is simple to state and hard to do: more live conversations per hour, with fewer mistakes. Here is what the software needs to do, what the rules require, and how Zorino handles it for a team of 2 to 10.
The only number that matters: conversations per hour
A rep dialing by hand makes 20 to 30 calls an hour and reaches a live person on a small share of them. Most of the hour goes to dialing, ringing and voicemail. Cold calling software raises the conversation count in three ways:
- Automatic dialing. The next number is called as soon as the last call ends. Zorino lets you set the pace: 5, 10 or 15 calls per minute across the team depending on your plan.
- Voicemail detection. Zorino recognizes answering machines and skips them. A rep's phone rings only when a real person picks up, so the rep hears a "hello", not a greeting message.
- Instant dispositions. One click after the call to log the result and book the callback. No spreadsheet, no forgotten follow-up.
Features to look for in cold calling software
- List import from CSV or Google Contacts, with duplicates handled.
- Your business number as caller ID. A local US or Canadian number people can call back. Zorino includes one in every plan.
- Callbacks that return to the same rep at the agreed time.
- A Do Not Call list that the dialer enforces automatically, not a note someone has to remember.
- Live stats per rep: dialed, answered, connected, voicemail, talk time.
- Works on the phones you have. Zorino rings each rep on their own phone, anywhere, with nothing to install.
- Text follow-up. Zorino has WhatsApp built in, so a rep can message a contact from the same place they call them.
The rules you have to respect
Cold calling is legal in the United States and Canada when you follow the rules. The short version:
- Do Not Call lists. In the US, the National Do Not Call Registry; in Canada, the National DNCL run under CRTC rules. Businesses that make telemarketing calls must scrub their lists and keep their own internal Do Not Call list. Zorino's Do Not Call flag is enforced by the dialer for every contact you mark.
- Calling hours. US federal rules limit telemarketing calls to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the consumer's local time, and some states are stricter. Canada's rules set similar windows. Call in the contact's time zone, not yours.
- Identify yourself. Say who you are and what company you call from, and show a real, callable number. Zorino displays your business number on every call.
- Recorded messages and texts need prior consent in most cases. Zorino's auto-dialer connects a live rep on every answered call; it does not blast recordings.
- Consent for recording. Some US states and all of Canada require that the people on a call know it is recorded. Check the rules for every state and province you call.
This is general information, not legal advice. Rules change; check the FTC, FCC and CRTC pages, or ask a lawyer, before you launch a campaign.

A cold calling session with Zorino, step by step
- Import your list (CSV or Google Contacts) and mark anyone who must not be called.
- Each rep sets themselves available on their own phone.
- Start the auto-dialer at the pace you want. Zorino calls, skips voicemail, and rings a rep the moment someone answers. The rep presses 1 and talks.
- After the call: one click to log the result, add a note, book a callback or mark Do Not Call.
- The manager watches live counters per rep and exports the results at the end of the day.
Try it on your own phone
The live demo lets Zorino call up to 5 numbers you choose and ring your phone when someone answers. Two minutes, no account, no card.
Does Zorino scrub against the national Do Not Call registries?
No. Scrubbing your lists against the US National Do Not Call Registry or Canada's National DNCL is your responsibility before you import. Zorino enforces your internal Do Not Call list on every dial.
Can we call outside the US and Canada?
Plans include minutes for calls to the US and Canada. Ask us before launching a campaign to other countries.
